Bio

Born in Jackson, Mississippi, I started making messes with paint at a young age.  I can remember one incident where I emptied an entire tube of bright green acrylic paint onto a stretched canvas and made spiky texture.  To me it was a very exciting painting of a salad,  but after the dog knocked it over onto the carpet it was not my mom's favorite work of art.  Never-the-less, I was still allowed to play in the paint and encouraged to pursue my varied creative endeavors.  I received my BFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2004 and soon had to put my artistic endeavors aside due to old house remodeling, space limitations, and babies.  I have three kids who are now old enough to entertain themselves or paint along-side me.  However, my favorite time to work is the quiet of night when everyone is asleep.
My current work began as a way to relax and find some peace while in the trenches of caring for small children.  I began with a small corner of a crowded garage at our house in Colorado.  Even during the coldest nights I could go out and play with my paint and feel calm (I even painted with ice as my water froze before my eyes). At college I studied traditional Chinese Painting, and though I did not excel at plum blossoms I did love the way the highly pigmented, opaque colors reacted with the rice paper.

When I'm not taking care of kids, painting, or photographing, I love to cook and bake healthful delicious food and go for walks on beautiful Lookout Mountain.
These are my hilarious children, Viola, Charlie, and Peter, and my husband Brian.
